Tapping Into the Transformative Power of Travel with the Discover Journal

Why do you travel?

If you’re like me, travel is an investment in meaningful memories, new experiences, shared connections and personal growth.

We’re fortunate because these life-giving trips are more available to us than ever before. A world of information and competitive airfare is open to us. We can read reviews, scour travel blogs and book a far-away stranger’s home in a few taps.

While it’s easier than ever to travel thanks to our modern conveniences, it’s also easier than ever to get distracted by the noise and miss out on the meaningful.

Over the years, I’ve noticed a few trends in my travels and I know I’m far from the only one.

The sheer volume of travel “inspiration” out there can promote FOMO and comparison. Instead of truly experiencing the moment, our “must-see” lists become a race to check everything off. Because if we don’t do that one thing in that one place were we really even there?

We get lost in Google maps instead of untrodden neighborhoods. We search for reviews instead of asking a local for their recommendation. We rush from one place to the next instead of sitting still and being where we are.

We’re overcome with dread when it’s time to go back to “real life” because we believe we leave our best selves on vacation.

Travel has the power to transform our lives in beautiful ways, big and small. Sometimes those shifts are quiet affirmations of what makes us happy or brings us peace. Sometimes they’re seismic ah-ha moments that 180 our entire outlook. Sometimes they go unrealized altogether because we’re too focused on making sure we “do” all the sights and get that perfect ‘gram.

So how can we tap back into the transformative power of travel?

1. Be intentional before traveling. This helps us choose how to spend our precious time in a way that’s personally meaningful without turning our trip into one long to-do list.

2. Practice mindfulness while traveling. So we stop missing out on moments that are ripe for impact, memories and self-discovery.

3. Reflect on our trip with home in mind. To find threads of joy, adventure and personal growth to weave into everyday life.

Seems simple enough, right? But I’ll be the first to admit that I find it quite challenging to follow through, especially amid the busyness of life and the excitement of travel.

That’s why I created a tool to cultivate intention, mindfulness and self-discovery while documenting memories in a quick and meaningful way.

Introducing the Discover Journal

Discover Journal

The Discover Journal is a guided travel journal for your inner and outer explorations. More than a travel journal with prompts, it’s a simple ritual that helps you become a more mindful traveler.

If you…
…start travel journals but lose motivation a few days into your trip
…like having a structure that makes documenting your travels easier
…don’t want journaling to feel like work or take up much time
…want to explore your inner world as much as your outer world

…then the Discover Journal is for you!

What’s different about The Discover Journal?

Created with happiness research and mindfulness principles in mind, the Discover Journal is a simple and meaningful way to document your trip, cultivate self-discovery and inspire a life you love long after you return home.

This isn’t another journal where you write down your packing list and daily itinerary and maybe a ticket stub or two before you forget about it.

It’s not a journal that begs to be filled with gallery-worthy sketches and epic tales (although there’s room for that too if that’s your thing).

It’s minimal on purpose, from the quick-answer style prompts to the black and white interior, it’s designed to help you write your own journey without the overwhelm.

At the same time, there’s plenty of blank space for itineraries, lists, photos, and of course, your written wanderings.

What’s Inside

Woman writing in the Discover journal.

The Discover Journal is divided into four sections to help you get the most out of your travels—before, during and after your trip.

Intentional Planning Pages
Organize your most important travel details and use the prompts to bring anticipation and intention to your travel plans.

Daily Travel Pages
The minimal daily pages make it easy to document the most impactful moments of your travels in just minutes a day.

Reflection Pages
Turn your trip into life-changing inspiration with prompts for trip highlights, self-reflection and living a travel-inspired life at home.

Your Written Wanderings
Pull from the collection of travel journaling prompts whenever you feel inspired to write but don’t know where to start.

A Journal for Your Journeys

Your travels are worthy of more than a spattering of dusty memories down the road, or a folder of photos tucked away in the corners of your computer.

After all, the most meaningful travel memories go beyond where you’ve been and what you’ve seen. They remind you of how far you’ve come as a person.

The journey is yours to write. What will you discover?
